Islay/Shooter Puppies are Here!!

April 4th, 2011, Islay had her 12 babies, 3 girls and 9 boys.  The whelping started at 6:30 am and didn't finish till the last one came at 11 pm.  What a long day for her and me!!  Fortunately Doris Berry came for the afternoon to help me and gave me a chance to take a little nap while Islay also took a 4 hour rest in the middle of it all.  I was most surprised by the size of the puppies.  One girl was 12 oz.  But everyone else was a pound or more!!  I figured she had 15 or more pounds of puppies and afterbirth in her!!  Shown here is a picture of my poor girl a few days before the birth.
