Islay/Shooter Puppies are Here!!

April 4th, 2011, Islay had her 12 babies, 3 girls and 9 boys. The whelping started at 6:30 am and didn't finish till the last one came at 11 pm. What a long day for her and me!! Fortunately Doris Berry came for the afternoon to help me and gave me a chance to take a little nap while Islay also took a 4 hour rest in the middle of it all. I was most surprised by the size of the puppies. One girl was 12 oz. But everyone else was a pound or more!! I figured she had 15 or more pounds of puppies and afterbirth in her!! Shown here is a picture of my poor girl a few days before the birth.

Wild Weekend in Cumberland!!

MADA wanted to try Cumberland, MD, as a Supported Entry in preparation for holding the Eastern Regional Specialty there next year. So several of us journied to this town known for steam engine trains to see what we could see. Entries were fair in the classes with 4 boys on Saturday and 3 on Sunday and we were able to pull majors in girls both those days. A few of us even came for the Friday show. Mary Snow did a wonderful job of trophies too! Jennifer Zucker of Raynbo Borzoi was our Sweepstakes judge and she chose my Shooter as Best in Sweeps. Then in the Regular Classes it was between Lear's daughter, Foxcliffe Enchanted Evening, and Lear's son, Foxcliffe's Garadun High Road for the breed as there were no specials entered. Ceil and Scott Dove's Chant got the Breed and Kathryn Schini's Roadie got BOS. Ceil stayed on for group and was surprised and pleased to win Hound Group 1!! Everyone that was in a local hotel had stayed to cheer her on and we had great fun with it.

Then it was time to go in for BIS and low and behold, she won BEST IN SHOW!!! We all erupted in pure elajulation!! What a wonderful event to be a part of!! Ceil was in pure shock! We were all beaming. What fun!! And to top it all off, Chant didn't even get a 5pt major which would finish her. 4pts was the highest for the day.

Oh well. The next day, to my surprise, my Shooter (Laphraoig Single Shot d'Lux) won the breed on Sunday. We stayed for Group and I'm pleased to announce that he got a Group 3!! All in all it was a very easy trip home. I floated the whole way! No picture yet of the win.

Blue Girl (Elean d'Lux) has a new home!! She's not there quite yet but she will be going to live with Susan and Frank Ily along with their DH Hank and BZ Ali. Yellow Girl (Eileandour d'Lux or Dora) is staying here with us. Dora was one of Bud's favorite Aunt's name. Stacking these two girls was most difficult now. They have too much of a brain to stay still for a photography shot!!

Before she went to her new home, Red girl went to Connecticut and got to stay with my sister and her family for a couple of days. Everyone fell in love with her! She is now with her new family in Rhode Island and is called Maggie and her registered name is Port Ellen d'Lux.

Sorry, it's been since the middle of September that I've posted on my Blog. I've had a marathon month of dog shows!! But it's been a great month. I decided that I would try and get the new Grand Champion title on Lear so I entered shows every weekend for a month. I also took turns showing Shooter, Islay and Goldie. Shooter picked up a point, Goldie got a couple of nice reserves and Islay not only managed to finish her championship with a 5 pt major but picked up a nice BOB over Lear and another group winning special but also went on to get a Group 3 at the Valley Forge KC show!!

And then the big news: Lear is now Grand Champion Highland Fusilier d'Lux, finished in just 3 weekends!!

Blue Girl -

Blue isn't really a Dachshund but she is sure trying to look like one!! I think she was stressed a little up on the table plus she had just eaten breakfast!

Gold Girl -

Gold is looking like a polished show girl and won the prize for best pose.

Red Girl -

Red is going to be a dark beauty with a heart of gold! She's quite the lover girl.
